Thinking about going to college? You might want to delete your Facebook page. Colleges are using your Social Networking sites (as part of a way) to decide if you are the right fit for their school.
•10% of admissions officers acknowledged looking at social networking sites to evaluate applicants
•38% said what they saw “negatively affected†their views of the applicant
As a 2 time college dropout, I am a little nervous about this recent discovery. I always said the next time (if there ever is a next time) I go to college, I’m going to graduate! Third time’s a charm, right?Â
Now the cap and gown seem further away than ever! How am I going to graduate if I don’t get accepted BECAUSE OF FACEBOOK & TWITTER! I curse like a sailor in real life and on my page. I normally try to keep it classy by saying something like, “Holy S!†or “F***†BUT it’s pretty obvious what I’m saying, I drink like a fish and post the pics. AND in my “Studied At†section I put “haha I dropped out twiceâ€. I don’t think the admissions board will find my page Future Star Student Worthy.
And my Dad had such high hopes of a diploma hanging on my wall. Sorry Dad, doesn’t look like there will be the piece of paper framed anytime soon. On a positive note, I did graduate from Bartending School and still have that certificate…maybe I’ll call that my 3rd attempt! It was successful, I did graduate. CHEERS!
