My New Quest- 30 Days of Giving

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged or  been on a QUEST! But the time has come for both…and this one has nothing to do with Bill Murray, unless he wanted to participate of course.

Moving to DC has been an amazing adventure. I’m loving being a part of the Jack Diamond Morning Show, I’m falling in love with the city and all of the amazing things it has to offer, I’m meeting new people, BUT lately I’ve felt like something was missing in my life.

Friday evening, I spoke to the Benton Family. Joey was back in the hospital for a few days getting his body back on track so he can continue making a mark on this world the way only he can. As I’ve written multiple times before, that family has impacted my life in so many ways. One way, being a better person.

The next morning, my girlfriend Melissa and I were walking down Connecticut Ave. when a homeless man asked for some change. Immediately Melissa reached into her purse, grabbed some money, and handed it to the nice man.

Sunday afternoon I picked up Glamour Magazine and saw an article about giving for an entire month and I was inspired. It’s been a long time since I’ve committed to making the world a better place…too long. It’s time to make a change and I’m going to start with the Man…or Woman in the Mirror. As Michael Jackson once said, “It’s gonna feel real good. Gonna make a difference. Gonna make it right.”

I am beginning my Quest to Be a Better Person by starting 30 Days of Giving on Friday November 19, 2010. For the next 30 days I am going to do something GOOD every day. Everything from helping an old woman cross the street, buying dinner for a stranger, volunteering at an animal shelter, to promoting a Cystic Fibrosis Event. If I hadn’t signed up for Relay for Life years ago, I would’ve never met the Benton’s. If I didn’t volunteer at a Nursing Home as a pre-teen, I wouldn’t have met an incredible deaf man that taught me how to sign (or at least say, “I want hamburgers” which is still very beneficial 14 years later). It’s incredible the affect that GIVING has on the person you are giving to and yourself.

I encourage you to join me on this Quest and start your own 30 Days of Giving…of course I would LOVE for you to keep me updated along the way.

Being new to town, if you are in the DC area and know of any charity events or programs that you think I should be involved in, feel free to email me brooke@itsbrookeryan.comand I’ll do my best to add it to the list!

Well let's see, Don't think I could live without Bacon, BritneySpears, Hair Extensions, Hallmark,& Ketchup. OH & wine. So I usually post about those things
  • Brooke, you could start one day earlier…..then it would be on my Birthday! I’m glad that you are getting out and seeing the wonderful sites in our nations capital. DC is a better place because you are there. My oldest boy, Ryan, is also back in the hospital. At MUSC, getting ready for more Video EEG’s to prepare for an intercranial surgery….soon =(( . BUT, i was wanting to know what hospital lil Joey was in….maybe he’s right on down the hall from my son, and then we can swing on by and say “Hi” to him. My younger brother has CF, so I should be more involved, but sometimes life takes you another direction. I look forward to hearing about your good deeds, and I might even be inspired to some of my own.

    Love and Miss ya, Connie

Awwww Thats so awesome Brooke!!! I see these random acts of kindness on a weekly basis at starbucks. About ever few days a customer in drive thru will offer to pay for the person behind them in line. When the car pulls up they are blown away by the generosity and I like to think they continue the random act for someone else. You are an amazing person and I’m proud of you for starting 30 days of giving! Miss you Xo

If you want to know more about “little Joey”, he has his own Facebook page…just search for and like “Peanut Patrol” 🙂

Brooke, Once again you bring a tear to my eyes with pride. I am so proud to have you as my daughter. Your soul is full of love, compassion and the ability to “just do it”. I know you will make a difference in so many people lives in these 30 days as you do always without knowing. Take what you have had inside you all along and click those ruby slippers and take it to the extreme. I love you and can’t wait to see what you will do. xoxoxooxoxoxox
