I’m really starting to feel like a nomad…roaming around from neighborhood to neighborhood in DC, meeting new people, experiencing new things, and on March 1st, I made my way to the far away land of U Street (ok it was only a $14 cab ride but that’s neither here or there)! OAR is one of my favorite bands to watch live and they were putting on a hometown show at the 9:30 Club. The night started with a Meet and Greet with the band…and the realization that the world is small and I’m a sissy-la-la.
Why is the world small? The record rep that was with the band (Ed) came up to me and said, “You look familiar.” I reminded him that I was the girl in the Ghostbusters shirt earlier that morning when they came into the Mix studios. He swore we had met before and then it hit him…Charlotte, a few years ago, Katy Perry & Thriving Ivory Halloween Concert with my buddy Special Ed! DING DING DING! I was dressed like a pirate (no surprise), Katy Perry was dressed like an Angel Egg as opposed to a Deviled Egg, and the rest of the night…well that’s kind of a mystery. But it’s always great to see a familiar face!
Why am I a Sissy-La-La? While we were downstairs for the Meet & Greet, and let me preface this by saying that ANYONE DOWN IN THE ROOM WON FROM OUR RADIO STATION, I fell in love. The most delicious man in a North Face Jacket was hanging out in the bar area, we made eyes a few times, but did I ever walk up and say hello? NOPE! Did he come over to me? No…Maybe that means he wasn’t interested…or he was intimidated by my charm (that’s what I tell myself). BUT I had an easy in! I was introducing myself to the other listeners in the room. WHY WOULDN’T I GO OVER TO HIM? Because I’m a sissy! I never saw him again.
After I got over the heartache of losing the potential love of my life, we went over to American Ice Co. and ate the most DELICIOUS BBQ I have ever tasted, drank a few beers, instagramed a few photos (yea it’s a problem), and then it was time to head to the show.
Overall it was a pretty amazing night! I fell in love and lost, the guys put on an amazing show, it was great to catch up with my pal JP, and once again I am quite satisfied with my decision to leave the neighborhood.
